Government Monitoring of Early Childhood Education Practices in The Gambia, Uganda, and Zambia

In 2023, ECD Measure and Africa Early Childhood Network (AfECN) partnered together with Ministries of Education in The Gambia, Uganda, and Zambia to pilot the Brief Early Childhood Quality Inventory (BEQI). Our joint goal was to promote measurement of early childhood education (ECE) and produce reliable, actionable data on the quality of early learning environments.

This Results Brief, which has been reviewed and validated by the three country teams in January 2024, is intended to support country-level early childhood stakeholders to communicate the purpose of BEQI, the importance of key evidence-based practices in ECE, and results from the BEQI pilot in the three countries.  It our hope that this brief can be a resource for early childhood decisionmakers in these countries and beyond to explore key evidence based practices in early childhood and consider policy and programmatic options that can support continuous quality monitoring and improvements in ECE.
