National BEQI Study in Guinea Bissau

Since 2022, ECD Measure has supported the Ministry of Education and UNICEF in using BEQI to assess early childhood education quality and integrate it into the national quality assurance system. After aligning and adapting the tool to the local context, it was piloted in 20 classrooms in 2023, then scaled up in 2024–2025 to support the rollout of a new ECE curriculum.

We supported two rounds of BEQI data collection to better understand how the new ECE curriculum relates to teaching practices, with certified enumerators observing 114 classrooms at baseline (June 2024) and revisiting 108 of those schools for endline (May 2025).

To share key findings and practical recommendations, we developed two tailored briefs: one for central-level decision-makers, which includes detailed results and policy recommendations for professional development; and a simplified version for community stakeholders, designed to be accessible and action-oriented for local educators and caregivers. See both briefs below.
